How to apply for a tatkal passport online
What is a tatkal passport?
A tatkal programme, as opposed to a standard application, means quicker authentication and processing. Passports are released under this programme within 1–3 days of the applicant completing the required paperwork at the Passport Seva Kendra.
The discrepancy between a regular passport and a Tatkal passport is zero. The distinction is in the manufacturing process. A regular passport is less important than a tatkal passport, and as a result, it is delivered later.
For regular applications, the Passport Office will send the passport to you within 3 days of obtaining a “Recommendatory” Police Verification Report (PVR) from the relevant police station. This does not apply to applications sent via the tatkal programme.
The print queue for Tatkal passports is also separate, meaning that they are printed quicker. For example, a Tatkaal passport will be dispatched within 1–3 days of the applicant entering PSK, while a normal application would take longer.
On the day of your Tatkal appointment, go to the PSK. Request that the passport application be changed to standard at the token counter. Write a letter explaining that you want to move jobs. They will open your document for editing and force you to make changes right away.
